Surprise passengers and mystery noises

The Train

Travelling overnight by train is always interesting and, as with most things, it is best to expect the unexpected. So when I found my train carriage was overfilled with women, I was not particularly surprised.
It caused some problems, but not for me. There was lots of commotion, with husbands, brothers and grandads all trying to sort out the problem. Eventually they were all placed in other carriages and I was (only!) left with one family of three and four other men. The carriages have eight 3 tier beds, mine fortunately was a lower bunk. At about 9pm people prepare the beds; each person has two clean sheets a pillow and a blanket.

I got my bed ready, and lay down for the night. I have two people above me and it was impossible to sit up straight, there is so little room.

And believe it or not, I had a good night sleep and was ready to get off the train which was only running an hour late. (On a previous journey I was on a train which was 12 hours late, so this was a successful trip!)

The House

And from the train, I was warmly greeted and introduced to the house I will be in for the next 3 months.

The house is, as you can see two stories, however it is empty so on a night when it is pitch black it is quite eerie. There is a lot of scurrying, and scratching above me and other noises in my house which, at present, are not yet accounted for. And the electricity is so unpredictable at the moment I am usually in the dark from about 8 pm.

Here are some more pictures: Dining room to the left, Kitchen to the right.

In my next post I hope to introduce you to some of the boys who stay at the Hostel.
