I arrived here in Kolkata ( Thursday Jan 9th) and although I have seen it all before, the stark contrasts never ceases to amaze me. Here you have pictures of what use to be called New Market. I suppose it was back then in the days of the British Raj. In contrast a very new and very western shopping mall. This is India today.
Then there is the food. Something I can't resist, a good dosa masala. Spending just two days here is enough to prepare me for the journey ahead.
For those who don't know, I have come to India to supervise the renovation of a children's hostel. My journey starts here in Kolkata and on Friday I travel by over night train to Diptipur. I will share this journey and the starting of the work in the next instalment.
